Abandoned Airplane Hangar
We walked over an hour on the side of a main road to get to an Abandoned Airplane Hangar that Josip Broz Tito used to store fighter jets in during the 90s. When we got there it was blocked by two separate fences and multiple keep-out signs - which we walked past to get a look at the hangar. From the outside, it looked a lot darker and more imposing than we had anticipated and when we went in, it was all fun and games until spooky noises started coming from deeper in the hangar. We had read in a deep-dive Reddit post that there may be homeless people living in the hangar, and as three young girls who were already trespassing, we decided to leave it be. We left, but it was definitely an experience I’ll never forget.

Wander Old Town - Stari Most
Stari Most, or Mostar Old Town, is a gorgeous historic city that is definitely worth a day to spend meandering the streets, looking at the bazaar and shops, and trying to convince your friends (and yourself) that you would totally jump off the bridge…it’s just too cold. In all seriousness, the bridge in Mostar is a sight to behold and is genuinely beautiful. We were there in April, but I would have loved to go when there were diving competitions. If the day is warm enough, I’d highly recommend trying some gelato from one of the many places along Stari Most.
Sunset Dinner with Bridge View
A restaurant recommendation we received while we were there was Restaurant Babilon – it's right along the river with a view of the bridge and gorgeous sunset vibes. Unfortunately, we were trying to beat the rain and walked back to our hostel before it started pouring so we didn’t get a chance to eat there. Food and atmosphere looked great and next time I visit Mostar, I’ll be here for sure!

Stay On Hill - Watch Sunset
We stayed at the Guesthouse STAR, at the top of the steepest hill I have ever climbed (with a 65L backpack on– in the rain). The incredible view of the surrounding area, Stari Most, and the sunset *almost* made it all worth it. The guesthouse was on the bottom floor of a family’s home and had a small kitchenette, shared bathroom, and two rooms for rent. We rented one of the rooms and a family from North Macedonia stayed in the second room. The woman who ran the hostel spoke no English and we ended up playing a lot of charades. She was the sweetest – brought us lunch one day when we were sitting on the terrace watching the rain, let me borrow a vest to keep me warm, and generally was just so kind and loving while we stayed there.
Day trip to Kravica Waterfall
The rain foiled our plan to visit Kravica Waterfall, but we had it all planned out. We’d take the train to [stop] then pay a taxi to take us to the start of the hike and pick us up afterwards. The waterfalls look gorgeous and we wanted to go, but alas, we’ll do it next trip.
Neretva River
Wander along the Neretva River for a beautiful relaxed stroll to take in the scenery. The bridge is the main attraction along the Neretva River, but the whole scene is truly stunning.
