Accommodation Recommendation

We stayed out of Vila Rajska ptica, a lovely house about a 10-minute walk away from Lake Bled, where the owner was a very nice Slovenian man who was going to the United States soon to watch some basketball. We stayed in an apartment at the bottom of his house that was named after his daughter. It had a small kitchenette in one of the rooms then two bedrooms and a huge updated bathroom. This place really had all the amenities. The location was perfect and we really enjoyed staying here. We booked through Booking.com.

Bus Stop - Arrange Transport with Booking if Possible

When you put the bus route from Ljubljana into Google Maps, the bus looks like it goes further into the town of Bled than it actually does. It drops you off on the outskirts of town right when you're first getting into it and this was the difference of about half a mile when compared to where our hostel was so we were a little disappointed to see that we would have to make that walk with our heavy luggage.

We shouldered our bags and started making the trudge to our hostel with morale at a low. I messaged our hostel owner off Booking.com to let him know when we would be there to check in. Next thing I know, a car is stopping right in front of us rolling down their window and saying “Anna from America?” It was our hostel owner coming to pick us up! He put our bags in his trunk and we chatted with him the whole drive back. This instantly raised the mood and we still are so grateful to him for coming to get us. He also actually offered to drive us to the train station at the end of our stay so that we could catch our train to Salzburg as well. He was super nice and, as I mentioned before, our accommodation at his house was lovely.

When we first arrived in Bled, we did not look into how to call a taxi but there were not any readily available. In the offseason, Bled is a pretty quiet and sleepy town so take care to book a taxi in advance or have a number to call.

Off-Season Nightlife

We didn't see any big nightlife around in Bled in the off-season. We were there at the beginning at the end of March / the beginning of April, and unsurprisingly, there didn't seem to be that many people about. This made it great for us since we were looking for a relaxing few days after the crazy busyness of Prague, but for someone who's looking for a little bit of an adventure I think Bled in the off-season might not be the best place. I have heard that it gets pretty crazy during the UK/European school holidays so keep that in mind just based on how busy you want your trip to be.
